MISSION STATEMENT The Miss
Fiesta San Antonio Scholarship Pageant is a non-profit organization developed to
award educational scholarships to finalists of the pageant as well as to promote
and preserve the goodwill of the citizens of San Antonio through Miss Fiesta’s
participation in Fiesta San Antonio and other official events. HISTORY Reynolds Andricks was the founder and director of the Festival San Jacinto Association which produced the illuminated night parade. The first night parade was held in 1947. He later changed the name to the Fiesta Flambeau Parade. In 1949, Mr. Andricks selected a queen to star in his night parade. He named her “Miss Fiesta.” Beginning in 1950, a pageant was held annually to select Miss Fiesta. Contestants were sponsored by local businesses and social organizations. Miss Fiesta was the star of the Fiesta Flambeau Parade until Reynolds Andricks’ death in 1982. The legacy of Reynolds Andricks continues today under new leadership. The title of Miss Fiesta has been changed to “Miss Fiesta San Antonio,” and the method of selecting her has changed also. It is now a scholarship program that provides scholarships to each young woman who becomes a finalist in the pageant. A 21-member board of directors guides the activities of the Miss Fiesta San Antonio Scholarship Pageant, Inc. Besides her Fiesta duties, Miss Fiesta San Antonio serves as an ambassador throughout the year to festivals and celebrations throughout the state and country. |
